France was a founding member of the EU in 1952 along with GermanyBelgiumItalyLuxembourg, and the Netherlands.

France had the 10th (out of 28) highest GDP per capita of all EU member states in 2012 at €31,100, it has the 2nd biggest population of all EU member state at  64.3 million.
