As some of you may know, Demsoc have recently opened a new hub in Manchester, with Beth, Mat and Michelle looking for interesting opportunities to work in the north west to improve democracy, especially around devolution, and local and open government.
As part of this new office, we will be launching a brand new series of Demsoc events! Once a month, we will be meeting on a Thursday evening, in a relaxed location such as a pub or café, to explore interesting questions related to democracy and politics, as well as what can practically be done.
The first of these events will be the Demsoc Manchester Launch event on 13th October at 6.30pm, looking at the question “How can devolution become a breakthrough for engagement in democracy?” We will ask three speakers, including Demsoc’s own Anthony Zacharzewski, and Hattie Andrews, Director of The Politics Project to start off the evening by sharing their thoughts, before we open up the floor for all attendees and wider conversation. This event is open to anyone, and you can RSVP here.
We are keen to make sure that anyone who wants can be there, so the venue is wheelchair accessible, and any other accessibility enquiries can be made at Manchester@demsoc.org or on +447846902601.
If you can’t make the first event, don’t worry! The second event will be at 6.30 pm on Thursday 17th November, marking UK Parliament Week, and the question will be “Why do we need politicians?” Further details to follow soon.
If you have a suggestion for a topic you would like to discuss at a future event, or any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at Manchester@demsoc.org or on +447846902601.
We hope to see you there!
