Different types of democracy

This is a document which set's out what the different types of democracy which are commonly referred to throughout the United Kingdom. It can be helpful for explaining, with ease, the differences and styles or approaches between representative, participative, deliberative and direct democracy.

The resource was developed as a learning tool for a qualification being developed in Scotland for young people on participatory budgeting and grant making. This is being supported by many organisations, including Democratic Society, with the learning accredited by Fife College.

The language is simple and clear on purpose - this isn't meant to be an academic thesis on democracy, but rather a 'quick sheet' to understand the basis. Feel free to adapt it to make it your own!
