Why Democratic Society?
“Democracy is an idea that bigger than our broken politics. Having spent half my life working within the traditional world of representative democracy, I’m passionate about the ways in which participative democracy can spark peoples mind and imagination and give everyone voice and a valued role in shaping the future."
David has a background of working in, with and for communities. He is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde with a degree from the Faculty of Education with a special focus on community education and development. David has worked in community organising and development roles in Scotland’s voluntary and third sectors before a 15-year spell as an elected politician in the city of Glasgow. During that time, he served in senior political roles overseeing a range of policy areas from community empowerment to culture and city to city diplomacy. For five years David was the chairperson of one of Scotland’s largest charities inspiring people to lead richer and more active lives through culture, sport and learning.
David has also served on a number of other boards and international networks focused on cities and urban life.
